St Vincent de Paul's letter to a lay brother put out by the petty divisions that had arisen in the community:
“You say that you cannot bear what is happening among our brothers, to wit, some little disagreement or other. To this I reply that the most saintly communities, like human bodies, are subject to illnesses and to inflammations; sometimes they are healthy, and at others sick; (…) but it can be set right, and we see how, thanks to God, the weak among us become strong and those who fall sick pick themselves up again. (…) The saints did so and even the apostles did not always agree among themselves. Our Lord had a lot to put up with in their company.” [p. 85]
